Mohamed Salah Determined to End Career at Liverpool with a Sweet

JAKARTA - Mohamed Salah said he wants to end his time at Liverpool in the right way after scoring in a 2-1 win over Everton on Sunday, April 19, 2026.

The Egyptian opened the scoring at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, equaling Steven Gerrard as the highest scorer by a Liverpool player in the Merseyside Derby (nine goals).

Beto equalised for the hosts in the second half before Virgil van Dijk scored in injury time to seal a big win for Arne Slot's side.

"It feels amazing, honestly. The most important thing is to help the team to calm down and keep confidence because we know before the game it will be difficult, it will be a tough game. I'm happy that in the end we managed to win the game," said Salah.

Salah now has just five games left for Liverpool, having confirmed last month that he will leave the club at the end of the season.

Asked if he had contemplated the end of his career at Anfield, Salah insisted he wanted a sweet farewell.

"I hope I continue to score goals and help the team at least to qualify for the Champions League this season. Hopefully I say goodbye in the right way," he said.

Meanwhile, Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk is one of the players who will miss Mohamed Salah.

"There will be a lot of words coming out of my mouth in the next few weeks about him (Salah). However, listen, he is very important for us, on and off the pitch."

"I would say, appreciation sometimes comes a little bit when players leave, but we really appreciate it. He's a great teammate, obviously we've been through everything together, the highs and the lows."

"He will remain important for the last five games we have to play. It will be an emotional moment for him and his family, of course, also for us."

"He means a lot to me, to the team, and to the fans of course. But first and foremost, we still have a task to complete and he knows that - that's the main focus," said Van Dijk.
