Channel Pool Built in Kelapa Gading, Anticipating Flooding in Residential Areas
JAKARTA - The North Jakarta Water Resources Service (SDA) built a water channel pond as a step to anticipate flooding on Jalan Gading Nirwana, RW 23, Pegangsaan Dua Village, Kelapa Gading District.
Head of the Kelapa Gading Sub-District SDA Implementation Unit, Supiyan, said the project was targeted to be completed in May 2026. "This work is targeted to be completed in May 2026," he said in Jakarta, Antara, Tuesday, April 21.
According to him, the construction of the channel pond is a follow-up to the aspirations of residents who have been frequently affected by puddles during heavy rains.
"This is an effort to anticipate floods that often occur during heavy rains," he said.
The water channel pool was built with dimensions of 3.4 meters long, 2 meters wide, and 3 meters high. The plan is to make two pools in the front and back of the residential area.
In the implementation of this project, his party deployed nine Blue Force personnel and activated one portable pump to help drain water into the canal during the process.
Supiyan explained that the initial stage of excavation was carried out using heavy equipment, then continued manually to ensure more optimal work results.
"This olakan pool is estimated to be able to hold up to 150 cubic meters of water," he said.
Meanwhile, a local resident, Urip (42), said that the RW 23 area consisting of eight RTs often experienced puddles of 20 to 30 centimeters when it rained with high intensity.
According to him, this condition is triggered by the location of the area which is in the basin, coupled with the higher elevation of the surrounding roads so that water can easily flow into the settlement.
He hopes that the construction of this channel pond can be a solution to reduce flooding in the area.
"Hopefully, after this pond is built, the puddles can be significantly reduced and residents will no longer be worried when it rains," he said.
