JAKARTA - The DPR has officially passed the Draft Law on Witness and Victim Protection (PSDK) into law. This regulation expands the guarantee of legal protection not only for witnesses, but also for reporters, informants alias cepu, to experts in the judicial process.
The ratification was carried out in the plenary session of the 17th DPR in the IV 2025-2026 session on Tuesday, April 21. The session was chaired by DPR Chair Puan Maharani along with the leadership of the council.
"Can the PSDK bill be approved to be enacted into law?" asked Puan, who was answered in unison by the council members.
With this approval, the law is waiting for the president's signature within a maximum of 30 days before it officially comes into force. This rule is expected to be a new milestone in strengthening legal protection in Indonesia.
The chairman of the PSDK Bill Panja, Andreas Hugo Pareira, explained that the policy consists of 12 chapters and 78 articles that expand the scope of protection. "Protection is not only for witnesses, but also for reporters, informants, and/or experts," he said.
In addition to expanding the subject of protection, this law also strengthens the rights of victims. Starting from physical and psychological protection, legal assistance, accompaniment, to the right to obtain information on the development of cases.
The aspect of victim recovery is also a major concern through the regulation of the restitution, compensation, and rehabilitation mechanisms. This regulation also strengthens the role of the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) as a key institution.
The DPR hopes that the enactment of this law can increase public confidence in the judicial system, as well as provide a sense of security for people who dare to report crimes.
