Plot Twist, the End of the Story of Matraman Residents Catching Fish with a Broom Leads to the Arrest of a Heroin Dealer
JAKARTA - A man with the initials ADC who is suspected of being a drug dealer of methamphetamine was arrested by residents in the Berlan area, Kebon Manggis, Matraman District, East Jakarta, Tuesday, April 21, 2026. The arrest occurred when residents together with the district were carrying out a fishing activity in the Ciliwung River.
The incident began when the community and the Matraman District apparatus held a neighborhood enforcement activity as well as catching sapu-sapu fish around the RW 03 Berlan water gate. In the middle of the activity, residents suspected the movements of a man who was seen pacing around the location.
Because he was considered suspicious, residents and local officials then secured the man. During the search, a package of methamphetamine and a smoking tool (bong) were found in a black plastic belonging to the perpetrator.
"It is proven to carry methamphetamine and a bong tool. We found that he was carrying methamphetamine and a bong tool," said one of the residents at the location.
From the initial examination, the perpetrator was suspected of having just made a drug transaction before he was finally arrested.
The head of the Matraman Sub-district, Husnul Fauzi, confirmed the arrest. He explained that the initial activities were focused on environmental enforcement.
"Actually, our activity is catching fish with a broom. The implementation is in the Ciliwung River at the water gate, entering the area of RW 03 Berlan. Initially, we disciplined people who passed through RW 03," said Husnul when confirmed.
Angry at the perpetrator's actions, residents then immersed the ADC in the Ciliwung River as a form of deterrent. However, after some time, the perpetrator and the evidence were handed over to the police.
"The sanctions are just deterrent, arrested," added Husnul.
Currently, the perpetrator has been secured at the Matraman Police to undergo further examination.
