Malaysia-Singapore Accelerate ASEAN Electricity Network Cooperation
JAKARTA - Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong discussed via telephone on Monday to encourage the acceleration of ASEAN Power Grid or ASEAN Electricity Grid cooperation.
"In the energy sector, we are focusing on strengthening the resilience of the electricity network and managing the pressure between supply and demand, as well as accelerating regional cooperation through the ASEAN Power Grid," Anwar Ibrahim said in a statement in Kuala Lumpur, Monday, April 20, as reported by ANTARA.
Anwar conveyed that Malaysia wanted to continue to prioritize domestic needs and together with ASEAN member countries ensure that the region remains resilient in the midst of global uncertainty.
On the other hand, in his discussion, Anwar and Lawrence Wong also discussed developments in the Middle East, including welcoming a temporary ceasefire, and stressing the need for a sustainable solution.
Malaysia supports ongoing diplomatic efforts, including Pakistan's role in facilitating dialogue, as well as stressing the importance of maintaining freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
