Heboh Kapal Gamsunoro Pertamina Dikemudikan WNA, PIS: Disewa Pihak Ketiga
JAKARTA - PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) spoke up regarding a viral video on social media that said Pertamina's Gamsunoro ship was controlled by an Indian foreign captain.
Responding to this, PIS Corporate Secretary Pjs Vega Pita said that PIS is a subsidiary of PT Pertamina (Persero) which focuses on marine services and services, and logistics for third parties and the international market.
"In serving the international market, PIS ships work together with the ship's charterers and management. This cooperation is a common practice in the international shipping world to encourage the company's capabilities and capacities in the global arena," said Vega in a statement to the media, Monday, April 20.
He added that the Gamsunoro ship is one of the ships owned by PIS that serves the market, especially in Asia, Europe, America, and Africa.
"Currently, the ship is rented by a third party who employs ABK in accordance with international regulations and strict operational standards," continued Vega.
As one of Pertamina's Sub Holding, he continued, PT Pertamina International Shipping focuses on the maritime transportation business line for the international market.
This strategy is carried out to encourage revenue growth and the country's foreign exchange engine from global market expansion.
"This is part of our strategy to strengthen the company's competitiveness while increasing Indonesia's role in the world maritime industry. In its operations, Pertamina's ships are in fact still dominated by Indonesian sailors up to 94 percent," said Vega.
Vega added that the Pertamina Group remains committed to domestic talent as part of efforts to develop national sailors' competencies in the global arena.
Meanwhile, the number of Indonesian crew members employed on Pertamina Group ships, both domestic and international, is at least 4,090 people.
"Meanwhile, for foreign sailors, it is only around 278 people or about 6 percent of the total crew on board the Pertamina Group ships," said Vega.
