KLH Names Former Head of LH DKI as Suspect in Bantargebang TPST Case

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Environment (KLH) has taken the criminal path by designating the former Head of the DKI Jakarta Environment Service (LH) with the initials AK as a suspect in the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Treatment Facility (TPST) management case.

The Minister of LH/Head of the Environment Control Agency (BPLH) Hanif Faisol Nurofiq emphasized that the government would not tolerate waste management practices that violate regulations, especially those that cause casualties.

"This law enforcement is part of the government's commitment to ensure that waste management is carried out responsibly and in accordance with the provisions of laws and regulations. We have provided space for coaching, supervision, and administrative sanctions. However, if it is not followed, then law enforcement must be carried out," said Minister Hanif as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, April 20.

He explained that in the development of handling cases in the DKI Jakarta Province, environmental law enforcement officers have named a suspect against the former Head of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Environment Service with the initials AK in the Bantargebang TPST management case.

The determination is part of the legal enforcement process for alleged waste management that does not meet norms, standards, procedures, and criteria, and is aggravated by the death of victims and serious injuries.

The landslide that occurred on Sunday (8/3) in the zonalandfill4 TPST Bantargebang is a clear proof of management that has not met the provisions.

The incident resulted in seven people dying and six people being injured. The investigation process which has been running is now entering the next stage with the determination of the suspect who is responsible for the management.

Previously, KLH/BPLH had taken steps to gradually conduct supervision and supervision. TPST Bantargebang has been subject to administrative sanctions in the form of Government Force since December 2024.

Supervision of the implementation of the sanctions has been carried out twice, namely in April and May 2025, with the results showing that the manager has not fulfilled the obligations set out.
