Canva AI 2.0 Launched, From Design Tool to AI-Based "Work Machine"

Jakarta - Canva officially launched Canva AI 2.0 at the Canva Create event in Los Angeles, marking the biggest transformation since the platform first launched in 2013. No longer just a design tool, Canva is now positioned as a center of artificial intelligence-based workflows.

With more than a quarter of a billion monthly active users, Canva is trying to level up: from a "quick design tool" to a work partner who can think, design, and execute ideas.

The core of this update is a conversation-based approach. Users simply write down ideas in natural language - without having to start from a blank canvas - and the system will immediately generate a complete design that can be edited. AI does not stop at one result, but continues to follow the creative process, understand the context, and help iterate in real time.

Behind the scenes, Canva is introducing an agency orchestration system. The concept is simple but powerful: one command can trigger many tools at once. For example, just write "create a product launch campaign," and the system will generate a series of cross-platform content - from presentations, social media materials, to strategy documents - in one workflow.

Another feature that is quite "game changer" is object-based intelligence. Users can change one design element without disturbing other parts. Replace images, change fonts, or edit titles - everything stays neat without having to start over. It sounds simple, but in the world of design, this is a crazy time saver.

Canva also introduced persistent memory, which allows AI to learn from users' work styles. In other words, the more often it is used, the more "familiar" it is with the tastes and brand identities of its users. The result: design consistency can be maintained automatically without having to reset each project.

This transformation is felt more through cross-platform integration. Canva AI 2.0 can connect with various services such as Slack, Google Drive, to Zoom. This means that emails can be directly converted into promotional materials, meeting transcripts into summaries, and even team activities can be processed into newsletters - all in one place.

The automation feature is also a highlight. Users can schedule tasks such as weekly content creation or daily reports, and the system will do it in the background - even when the user is offline. This changes the workflow from manual to semi-autonomous.

On the technology side, Canva relies on its internal research laboratory which develops AI multimodal design models. Models such as Canva Proteus, Lucid Origin, and I2V are claimed to be much faster and more efficient than other alternatives, with performance improvements of up to seven times and cost efficiencies of up to 30 times.

Interestingly, Canva also deepened its collaboration with Anthropic, allowing direct integration with AI such as Claude. In addition, content from various AI platforms—including ChatGPT—can be directly imported and edited in Canva without having to start from scratch.

For users in Indonesia, one feature that feels relevant is Canva Offline. This feature allows users to continue working without an internet connection, with automatic synchronization when they are back online - a practical solution for network conditions that are not always stable.

This launch is being done in stages as a preview of the research, starting with the first one million users before being expanded globally in the next few weeks.

In the midst of the explosion of generative AI, Canva's move feels quite strategic. Not just following trends, but trying to redefine the way people work - from just making designs to managing the entire creative process in one ecosystem.

If in the past the design started from a blank canvas, now it's enough from one sentence. The rest? Let the AI work.
