Iran's IRGC Claims to Have Repelled US Warships from the Oman Sea Blockade
JAKARTA - The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy reportedly forced US forces to withdraw from the waters of the Sea of Oman after attacking the Iranian-flagged Touska ship.
Citing Xinhua on Monday, April 20, according to a source reported by the Mehr news agency, the IRGC forced the US warship to retreat, firing at the engine room, and seized the Touska ship.
"With the timely presence and quick reaction of the IRGC Navy unit in support of the Iranian ship, the US forces were forced to retreat and leave the area," the report said.
The US Navy attacked the Touska cargo ship in the waters of the Sea of Oman on Sunday, April 19.
The US confirmed it had attacked the ship, damaging its engine room, on the grounds of trying to break through the blockade after warning shots.
According to US President Donald Trump via his Truth Social account, the ship violated sanctions imposed by the US Department of the Treasury so that it was blocked and seized.
Iran then launched a drone attack on US Navy military ships that were conducting a blockade in the waters of the Sea of Oman.
"Iran retaliated against the US Navy's aggression in the Gulf of Oman," the Tasnim news agency reported on Monday afternoon, April 20 WIB.
US forces have blocked ships to and from ports in Iran as part of US President Donald Trump's threat to the course of US-Iranian negotiations.
The blockade in the Gulf waters, from the Strait of Hormuz to the Sea of Oman, was also carried out by US forces after Iran declared it had fully opened the Strait of Hormuz during the period of the ceasefire in Lebanon.
"Iranian forces launched a drone attack on US military vessels in the Gulf of Oman after American terrorists attacked the Iranian container ship Toska, which was en route from China to Iran," the report said.
