Ben Whittaker Only Needs 144 Seconds to Knock Out Braian Suarez

Jakarta - English boxer Ben Whittaker showed his class with a quick knockout (KO) victory over Braian Suarez in a light heavyweight fight in Liverpool, Sunday, April 19 WIB.

The 2020 Tokyo Olympics silver medalist only needed 2 minutes 24 seconds in the first round to end Suarez's resistance, while maintaining his status as the WBC Silver champion in the 79.4kg class.

Domination From The First Second

From the opening bell, Whittaker immediately took control with a combination of fast jab and precise right hand. His speed and technique made Suarez difficult to find rhythm, let alone to close the distance.

Suarez tried to enter the close-range fighting area, but the momentum did not last long. In one moment, he was seen complaining to the referee because he felt he had an illegal blow to the back of his head.

Instead of disturbing the focus of the opponent, the situation was actually used by Whittaker. A hard right punch landed hard on Suarez's head and knocked him down. The Argentine boxer was unable to get up until the referee's count was finished, forcing the match to be stopped earlier.

Clean Record, Momentum is Safeguarded

This victory extended Whittaker's unbeaten record to 11 wins (8 KO) and one draw. Meanwhile, Suarez now has 20 wins (19 KO) and four losses.

The dominant performance cemented Whittaker's position as one of the most promising prospects in his division, with a flamboyant fighting style that is starting to catch the attention of the global public.

Heading to the United States Stage

Promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed that Whittaker will make his debut in the United States on June 27, as a supporting party to the duel between Xander Zayas and Jaron Ennis.

"Next, he will be where he should be, on a big stage like New York," Hearn said.

He also added that Whittaker is projected to be a major star in a big fight in Birmingham, with a long-term target towards the world title.

"Whether it's a big domestic duel or an eliminator towards the world title. I believe that in 2027 he will be ready to face the best 175-pound boxers in the world," he said.
