Police thwart brawl in East Jakarta, sharp weapons seized
JAKARTA - The police have managed to prevent a potential brawl that a group of young people in East Jakarta are suspected of carrying out early Sunday morning. This action was taken when officers carried out a routine patrol to maintain public safety and order.
A team from Battalion B Pelopor of the Satuan Brimob of the Metro Jaya Police with the Perintis of the East Jakarta Metro Police found a group of young people gathered in the Jalan Kerja Bakti VII area. At that time, they were seen consuming alcoholic beverages and showing suspicious behavior.
The commander of the Brimob Unit of the Metro Jaya Police, Henik Maryanto, explained that the officers then conducted an inspection of the group.
"During the inspection, officers found a number of items that were suspected of being used for the brawl, namely two spears, one golf club, chili water, and one two-wheeled vehicle," he said.
The discovery of these items strengthens the suspicion of a plan for a clash. All the young people who were at the location were immediately secured and taken to the East Jakarta Metro Police for further examination.
Henik emphasized that this joint patrol was a real step to prevent security disturbances, especially in vulnerable areas.
"We will not give space for activities that have the potential to disrupt order. Patrols will continue to be increased to maintain public safety," he said.
He added that the presence of the police on the ground was not only for enforcement, but also as an effort to prevent street crime, including fights, from being suppressed from the start.
According to him, intensive patrols, especially at night and early morning, have proven effective in maintaining a conducive situation.
The police also invite the public to play an active role in maintaining the surrounding environment and immediately report if they find suspicious activities. Police services can be accessed through the 110 call center, which is on standby 24 hours a day.
