Donald Trump: US and Iran talks continue, discussions going very well
JAKARTA - Negotiations between the United States and Iran are still ongoing, with discussions going "very well," US President Donald Trump said on Saturday.
"We are having very good talks. It's going very well," Trump said at an event at the White House, as quoted by Antara.
Trump also promised to provide additional information on the progress of the talks before the end of Saturday.
"The United States is taking a 'tough stance' in negotiations with Iran," he said, adding that Tehran would find it difficult to try to "squeeze" the US.
On Friday (17/4), Axios reported that the second round of negotiations between the United States and Iran could take place on April 19 in Islamabad.
The US and Israel launched an attack on targets in Iran, including in Tehran, on February 28. The attack caused damage and civilian casualties. Iran then retaliated by attacking Israeli territory and US military facilities in the Middle East.
On April 7, Washington and Tehran announced a two-week ceasefire. Subsequent talks in Islamabad ended without results.
Although there was no announcement of the resumption of hostilities, the US began to blockade Iranian ports. The mediators are currently trying to arrange a new round of negotiations.
