Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education and the Austrian Embassy Open Opportunities for Collaboration in Research and Higher Education

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) together with the Austrian Embassy opened opportunities for strengthening collaboration in the fields of research and higher education.

Both parties discussed strengthening the ongoing collaboration program, including student and lecturer exchanges, scholarship programs, and inter-campus cooperation (University-to-University/U2U) on Thursday, April 16.

The Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Mendiktisaintek), Brian Yuliarto emphasized the importance of the role of universities in supporting national priority agendas, especially in encouraging downstream, industrialization, and strategic sectors such as sustainable energy.

"We have a priority program based on the direction of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto. This can be implemented through programs on campus, not only for science, but also how campus research can affect industry," said the Minister of Science and Technology in a statement in Jakarta, quoted by Antara, Saturday, April 18.

Minister Brian emphasized his commitment to continue expanding global partnerships that support the improvement of the quality of higher education and national research, as well as ensuring that international collaboration can make a real contribution to the development of an innovation-based economy in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, the Interim Acting Head of the Austrian Mission to Indonesia, Michael Wislocki, expressed appreciation for the partnership that has been established and stated a commitment to continue strengthening cooperation, including through the development of academic networks and increasing student mobility.

"Cooperation in higher education with Indonesia has been running since 1991. We highly appreciate and are satisfied with the ongoing cooperation, and want to take a step further with Indonesia," said Michael Wislocki.

It is known that both parties are also exploring the potential for more concrete cooperation through joint projects in the energy transition sector, including the development of battery technology, semiconductors, and energy conversion systems.

In addition, efforts to improve the quality of vocational education and the development of research that is directly connected to industry needs are also discussed.

This collaboration is expected to involve universities, industry, and the government in an integrated manner within a sustainable framework.

As a follow-up step to increase cooperation, both parties are exploring the potential of a more integrated collaboration program scheme, including the potential for the development of large-scale joint projects that combine aspects of education, research, and intergovernmental financing.
