Polda Metro Jaya Stops Investigating Three Suspects in the Case of Alleged Jokowi's Degree
JAKARTA - The Directorate of Criminal Investigation of the Polda Metro Jaya has stopped investigating three suspects in the case of alleged allegations of the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo's diploma. However, the other suspects are still being processed until the trial stage.
The termination of the investigation was carried out through the restorative justice mechanism after a peaceful agreement was reached between the reporter and the suspects.
"The investigation into ES, DHL, and RHS was stopped through the restorative justice mechanism," said the Head of the Metro Jaya Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Kombes Pol Iman Imannudin, at a press conference, Friday, April 17, 2026.
This case began with allegations regarding the validity of Jokowi's bachelor's degree. The reporter mentioned his good name was attacked through accusations of having a fake degree, a fake thesis, to an invalid certification sheet. The issue was then widely discussed on social media.
However, the results of the investigation said Jokowi was a graduate of the Faculty of Forestry, Gadjah Mada University, with valid academic documents and recognized by the campus.
During the investigation process, the police examined 130 witnesses, seized 17 types of evidence, and collected 709 documents. A total of 25 experts from various fields were also asked for information. The diploma documents were also tested at the Puslabfor Polri, including examination of paper, ink, embossing, stamps, to signatures.
"The laboratory has been accredited and has legal legitimacy in the proof," said Iman.
The police also opened the opportunity for a rematch. However, a number of institutions such as BRIN and the University of Indonesia are said to not have the capacity to conduct forensic testing of documents.
From the results of the investigation, eight people were named as suspects and divided into two clusters. The first cluster consists of Eggi Sudjana, Kurnia Tri Rohyani, Damai Hari Lubis, Rustam Effendi, and Muhammad Rizal Fadillah.
Meanwhile, the second cluster contains Roy Suryo, Rismon Hasiholan Sianipar, and dr. Tifauziah Tyassuma alias dr. Tifa.
Previously, Eggi Sudjana and Damai Hari Lubis had previously obtained a termination of investigation through SP3 on January 15, 2026.
Rismon Hasiholan Sianipar then followed after meeting the reporter on March 12, 2026 and apologizing. The follow-up meeting on April 1, 2026 resulted in peace, until the investigators issued SP3 on April 14, 2026.
"In handling this case, there is a mechanism for resolution through restorative justice which was chosen by some of the suspects. There has been a peace agreement between the suspects and the complainant, with the National Police acting as a facilitator," explained Iman.
However, the legal process against other suspects is still ongoing. "The case file has been sent to the DKI Jakarta High Prosecutor's Office for further processing," he said.
