KLM cancels 160 flights due to rising jet fuel prices

JAKARTA - The airline KLM Royal Dutch Airlines said it would cancel 160 flights in Europe next month due to rising fuel costs.

In a statement, KLM said it had made "a number of adjustments" to its flight schedule for the coming months.

"This concerns a small number of flights in Europe that, due to the increase in jet fuel costs, are currently no longer financially viable to operate," he said, quoted by ANTARA from Anadolu, Friday, April 17.

The airline said there was no shortage of jet fuel and the cancellations involved 80 fewer round trips to and from Schiphol Airport in the Netherlands, representing less than one percent of operations in Europe during the period.

The statement added that the airline was anticipating a busy May holiday travel period and was working to ensure passengers could reach their destinations as planned.

Rising tensions related to conflicts involving Iran have increased operating costs for airlines around the world, with several airlines recently announcing flight cancellations and schedule adjustments.
