US Secretary of Defense Hegseth Recites Fictitious Prayer from Pulp Fiction to Justify War
JAKARTA - United States (US) Defense Secretary (Menhan) Pete Hegseth read a fictional Bible verse while praying about the rescue of a US fighter pilot who fell in Iran last month by a US Air Force search team named Sandy 1.
The Telegraph reported on Friday, April 17, that the fictional verse did not come from the Bible but from the iconic monologue of the classic film titled Pulp Fiction by Quentin Tarantino.
In his fictional prayer on Wednesday, April 15 on the Pentagon podium, Hegseth followed the monologue of the assassin character Jules, played by actor Samuel L. Jackson in the 1994 film. Jules wants to kill his victim every time he says words like Hegseth's fictional verse.
Quoting Sky News Australia, here are Hegseth's fictional verses that are not in the Bible:
"The path of the fallen aviator is blocked on all sides by the injustice of selfish people and the tyranny of evil people.
And I will inflict great and cruel vengeance on those who try to capture and destroy my brothers!
And you will know that the sign of My call is Sandy 1, when I will vent My vengeance on you. Amen."
Meanwhile, in the film Pulp Fiction, the following is the fictional prayer monologue of the character Jules:
"The path of the righteous is beset on all sides by the wicked.
And I will inflict great and cruel vengeance on those who seek to poison and destroy my brothers!
And you shall know that my name is the Lord, when I shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall shall be used for the purpose of providing the services requested by the user.Indonesian: Kami menggunakan informasi yang kami kumpulkan untuk menyediakan layanan yang Anda minta. The Hollywood Reporter reported that the correct verse refers to the verse of Ezekiel 25:17 in the Bible. In one sentence, the verse is not a symbol of violence but has the meaning of retaliation against the Philistines. The text reads as follows:
"And I will execute great vengeance on them with furious rebukes; and they shall know that I am Yahweh, when I shall shall execute judgments in them."
Responding to US Secretary of Defense Hegseth misquoting a verse from the Bible to justify the war against Iran, the Pentagon took action through its chief spokesman Sean Parnell, saying: "Anyone who says the Minister misquoted Ezekiel 25:17 is spreading false news and does not know the reality."
