Sex Pistols and Marshall Introduce Limited Edition Amplifier
JAKARTA - The legendary British punk rock band, Sex Pistols, has officially collaborated with amplifier manufacturer Marshall to launch a limited edition amp stack product.
The launch of this striking pink and yellow-tinted audio device was carried out to commemorate the band's 50th anniversary, as well as to welcome the excitement of Record Store Day on April 18 tomorrow.
This exclusive product is only available in 81 units worldwide. Its visual design takes inspiration directly from the cover of the iconic 1977 Sex Pistols album, "Never Mind The Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols".
Not just selling aesthetics, Marshall directly involved the guitarist, Steve Jones, in the development process to ensure that this device was able to produce the raw distortion that was the foundation of punk music.
Technically, this amplifier carries an all-valve construction with an output power of 100W, which is designed to pursue an authentic British guitar tone.
Its specifications include a simple single-channel system with a master volume, FX loop series, and flexible EQ settings.
The device is paired with a 1960A 4x12 Angled cabinet equipped with Celestion G12T-75 speakers.
Steve Jones said his choice fell on Marshall because of the brand's consistency in supporting his performance for decades. Jones emphasized that simplicity is the key to his musical character.
"I've been using Marshall for a long time and the 800 series is my 'workhorse' - it's always reliable, always consistent. I like to keep things simple, as the saying goes. It's just rock 'n' roll," said Steve Jones, quoted by NME, Friday, April 17.
The marketing of this product is divided into two collector variants. Units with pink covers and yellow frets can be purchased through the official site marshall.com. Meanwhile, the exclusive variant with yellow covers and pink frets is only available through the sexpistolsofficial.com page.
In addition to launching musical instruments, the Sex Pistols also celebrated five decades of their existence by releasing a special edition of the compilation album "Jubilee" (2022) in a pink vinyl format.
This momentum also coincides with the announcement of their arena tour, "Anarchy In The UK 2026", featuring Frank Carter as the vocalist, to celebrate the great legacy of punk in the global music scene.
