Mahakam Block Adds 20 MMSCFD Gas Production

PT Pertamina (Persero) reported that it had succeeded in increasing gas production by 20 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) from the Sisi Nubi Area of Interest 1-3-5 (SNB AOI 1-3-5) Project in the Mahakam Working Area (WK).

Vice President of Corporate Communication Pertamina, Muhammad Baron, said that the increase in Mahakam Block production was Pertamina's concrete step in maintaining the stability of national energy supply in the midst of global uncertainty, including the dynamics of conflicts in the Middle East region which could potentially affect the world's energy supply chain.

"Pertamina consistently encourages the increase in domestic oil and gas production as the main foundation for national energy security. This step is also part of efforts to support the government's major agenda in realizing energy independence," said Baron, Friday, April 17.

He continued, the additional gas production came from the success of Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM), a subsidiary of Pertamina's Upstream Subholding in operating the WPN-7 Platform which includes wells NB-701 and NB-702 in the Sisi Nubi offshore field, East Kalimantan.

In the initial stage, well NB-701 recorded a production of 9.8 MMSCFD since March 25, 2026, followed by well NB-702 of 12.5 MMSCFD on March 26, 2026.

This success makes WPN-7 the third platform that has been produced from a total of six platforms planned in the development of the SNB AOI 1-3-5 Project.

Gradually, production from both wells will continue to be optimized through monitoring and stabilization processes to achieve the initial production target of 20 MMSCFD on a sustainable basis.

Previously, Pertamina had previously operated the WPS-4 Platform on December 4, 2025 and WPS-5 on February 23, 2026.

This series of achievements shows the consistent, integrated, and timely development progress of the field, as well as reflecting Pertamina's operational resilience in the midst of global challenges.

"This success is proof that in the midst of global pressure, Pertamina remains focused on playing its role as a key driver of national energy security. We will continue to strengthen domestic production capacity to ensure that energy remains available for the public," said Baron.
