Badrodin Haiti was inaugurated as the National Police Chief in History Today, April 17, 2015

History today, 11 years ago, April 17, 2015, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) appointed Badrodin Haiti as the new National Police Chief. Badrodin was asked by Jokowi to continue to cooperate between state institutions in enforcing the law.

Previously, Budi Gunawan's name was considered the strongest candidate for the post of National Police Chief. Budi has received the blessing of Jokowi and members of the DPR. Problems arise. Budi is entangled in corruption. This narrative makes Budi not be inaugurated and Badrodin Haiti's name appears.

The government once made Budi Gunawan a strong candidate for the National Police Chief in 2015. Budi was predicted to easily sit as the number one person in the National Police. This desire was fully supported by members of the DPR. However, the narrative was interrupted.

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) first sniffed that Budi was involved in the Corruption case. Budi's leadership track as Head of the Career Development Bureau of the National Police PSDM from 2004 to 2006 was considered the root of the problem.

At that time, Budi was seen to have made suspicious transactions to his account. Everything was revealed because of a report from the Financial Transaction Reporting and Analysis Center (PPATK) to the National Police Headquarters on March 23, 2010.

Not to mention, the KPK found an increase in Budi's unnatural wealth in the State Organizer Wealth Report (LHKPN) of Budi in July 2013. The KPK finally named Budi as a corruption suspect on January 13, 2015.

The determination made the people angry. Even though not a few also considered that the determination of Budi as a suspect had political elements. Jokowi was also asked to stop the process of appointing Budi. This condition is considered to be a government ulcer in the future.

The people's desire was finally heard. Jokowi decided to cancel the appointment of Budi as the new National Police Chief on February 18, 2015. This effort was taken to dampen criticism from the public.

"Considering that the nomination of Police Commissioner General Budi Gunawan as the police chief has caused differences of opinion in the community. Therefore, in order to create calm and pay attention to the needs of the police of the Republic of Indonesia, to be immediately led by a definitive police chief, today we propose a new candidate, namely Police Commissioner General Badrodin Haiti to get the approval of the House of Representatives as the police chief," said Jokowi as quoted by the setkab.go.id page, February 18, 2015.

Jokowi moved quickly to find a replacement for Budi as the new National Police chief. He proposed Badrodin Haiti as the new National Police chief candidate to create calm in the community. Members of the DPR also agreed with Jokowi's proposal.

At its peak, Jokowi appointed Badrodin Haiti as the new National Police Chief at the State Palace on April 17, 2015. Jokowi hopes that Badrodin Haiti can work well. Badrodin is asked to be able to maintain cooperation between state institutions in law enforcement.

"In handling criminal cases other than corruption, we must cooperate with the Prosecutor's Office, BPK, Courts, and the Association of Law Enforcement Agencies. That is part that we must improve. We will fully back up because corruption is not only a challenge for the KPK but a challenge for all of us law enforcement officers and also for Indonesia," said Badrodin as quoted by the Cabinet Secretariat website, April 17, 2015.
