Volkswagen Anhui officially introduced its latest pure electric SUV, the ID. Unyx 08, on April 16. This model is the result of collaboration with Xpeng and is the first mass-produced vehicle from the partnership.

This SUV carries Volkswagen's new design language combined with a distinctive Chinese aesthetic touch. Gold line accents stretch across the center to blend with the gold Volkswagen logo in front.

The front fascia is equipped with more than 400 LED lights that can be controlled individually, allowing for customizable interactive lighting effects. Dimensionally, the vehicle has a length of 5,000 mm, a width of 1,954 mm, and a height of 1,688 mm or 1,672 mm with air suspension in the standard position.

Then the wheelbase reaches 3,030 mm, ID. Unyx 08 is also offered with a choice of 20-inch and 21-inch rims. The braking system is equipped with Brembo four-piston fixed calipers as standard.

Entering the cabin, the interior design carries a circular concept with a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel. In addition, there are two 14.96-inch screens with a resolution of 2.4K powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon SA8295P chip. The AI-based intelligent assistant system combines technology from Z.AI and Baidu's Wenxin large language model.

For a five-passenger configuration, the trunk space is available up to 766 liters and can be expanded to 1,845 liters by folding the rear seats. The front seats are equipped with 12-way electric adjustment, as well as 10-point pneumatic massage, ventilation, and heating features.

In terms of safety and driving assistance technology, the ID. Unyx 08 carries Volkswagen's advanced VLA end-to-end model-based system to improve the capabilities of Level L2 Automatic Navigation (NOA) in urban areas. This system is supported by 11 cameras, three millimeter wave radars, 12 ultrasonic radars, and two Turing AI chips with computing capabilities of up to 1,500 TOPS.

Built on an 800V platform, the SUV is available in a choice of rear-wheel drive (RWD) single motor and all-wheel drive (AWD) dual motor. The AWD variant is capable of sprinting from 0-100 km/h in 4.9 seconds with a maximum speed of 200 km/h.

Battery options include a lithium iron phosphate unit from CATL with a capacity of 82 kWh and 95 kWh. The 82 kWh version offers a range of up to 630 km, while the 95 kWh variant can reach up to 730 km.

The largest battery also supports DC fast charging up to 315 kW, which allows for a 150 km range in five minutes, as well as charging from 10 to 80 percent in about 20 minutes.

The Onyx 08 also comes equipped with a dual-chamber air suspension option with adaptive DCC chassis control and an AI-based "magic carpet" preview feature. This suspension allows for vehicle height adjustments of up to 100 mm.

Volkswagen itself is still one of the main players in the Chinese market, with monthly sales exceeding 100,000 units, although most of its contribution still comes from internal combustion engine vehicles.
