US: Navy Blockade Iran's Coastal Line, Not the Strait of Hormuz

JAKARTA - The United States Navy imposed a blockade on Iran's coastline and ports, not on the Strait of Hormuz.

"I need to emphasize. This blockade applies to all ships, regardless of nationality, which are heading to or coming from Iranian ports. This US action is a blockade of Iranian ports and coastlines, not a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz," said Chief of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine on Thursday, April 16, reported by ANTARA from Sputnik/RIA Novosti.

He said the move would extend to the territorial waters of the Islamic Republic of Iran as well as international waters in other areas of responsibility, such as the Pacific Ocean.

"Under Admiral Paparo's command, we will actively pursue any Iranian-flagged vessel or any vessel that attempts to provide material support to Iran. This includes dark fleet vessels transporting Iranian oil," Caine continued.

On February 28, the US and Israel launched an attack on targets in Iran, including in Tehran, which caused damage and civilian casualties. Iran then responded by attacking Israeli territory and US military facilities in the Middle East.

Then on April 11, Iran and the US held talks in Islamabad after US President Donald Trump announced he had reached an agreement with Tehran on a two-week ceasefire.

But on April 12, the head of the US delegation, Vice President JD Vance, said Iran and the US failed to reach an agreement in the negotiations.

The US delegation returned to its country without an agreement.

Furthermore, Trump announced a blockade against all ships passing in and out of Iranian ports on both sides of the Strait of Hormuz.
