350 Palestinian Students Detained in Israeli Prison in Bad Conditions

JAKARTA - The Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education stated that around 350 students are currently imprisoned in Israeli prisons in poor conditions that violate all international laws and conventions.

In a statement marking Palestinian Prisoners Day, the ministry said the prisoners were subjected to systematic policies including night arrests, harsh interrogations, isolation, and deprivation of education, as well as medical neglect and ill-treatment.

Based on documented testimonies from imprisoned children and students, the ministry confirmed that many of them had experienced terrible conditions of detention, quoted from WAFA (16/4).

Some, the ministry added, told of being taken from their homes at night, handcuffed and blindfolded.

Others reported they were denied the right to continue their education and were held in environments that fell short of basic humanitarian standards, in addition to psychological pressure and intimidation during interrogations.

The Ministry further stated that these testimonies reflect the extent of the violations experienced by the students, which are a blatant violation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and all norms that guarantee the right to education, protection, and care.

It said targeting students was not a coincidence, but part of a broader policy affecting their awareness and future.

The ministry stressed that the arrest of students and the deprivation of their right to education are direct attacks on the Palestinian education system and a systematic attempt to undermine the future of future generations.

The ministry emphasized that these practices will not hinder its role in protecting and promoting the right to education.

The ministry again called on all international and human rights organizations, especially those related to children's rights and education, to bear their legal and moral responsibilities and work diligently to stop these violations and hold the occupation accountable.

The ministry also demands the immediate and unconditional release of all prisoners and detainees, especially children and school students, and guarantees their right to return safely to school and continue their education.

The Ministry reiterated its commitment to support imprisoned students and highlighted their suffering in all international forums.
