Pursued by Prabowo's 8 Percent Economic Growth Target, Pramono Acknowledges Jakarta Will Be Overwhelmed

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung admitted that the 8 percent economic growth target set by President Prabowo Subianto until 2029 is not an easy matter.

In this case, local governments are asked to prepare concrete steps even though they are faced with various global and domestic pressures. Pramono emphasized that the current conditions make it challenging to achieve the target.

"The DKI Jakarta Government must prepare for this to be able to achieve the President's direction. Even though in the current condition, of course, it is not easy, it will definitely be struggling, it will be very difficult," said Pramono when opening the 2027 RKPD Musrenbang event at the DKI Jakarta City Hall, Thursday, April 16.

Despite the weight, the DKI Provincial Government has no other option but to align policies with the central government. A number of steps have been prepared to keep economic growth on track.

"The DKI Jakarta government must follow what the central government directs, so that we prepare the steps forward for what the DKI Jakarta Government will do in 2027," said Pramono.

Pramono revealed that there were two major pressures that could potentially disrupt Jakarta's economic performance in the near future. The first is the widespread geopolitical conflict and its impact on the global economy.

He assessed that the conflict had not shown signs of easing and had the potential to trigger a chain effect on various sectors.

"The conflict or war that occurred between America, Israel, and Iran and now has spread everywhere. To this day we have not found a meeting point of what will happen and solve this because this will affect the price of fuel, supply chain, and various problems that exist," he said.

In addition, the threat of El Nino which started in mid-April until September is also expected to affect the domestic economic conditions, including Jakarta.

Facing this condition, the DKI Provincial Government is preparing short-term steps to mitigate the possible impacts, especially in strategic sectors.

Pramono also reminded of Jakarta's strategic role in the national economy. The capital's contribution to the national gross domestic product (GDP) reached more than 16 percent.

"So that in managing the Jakarta Government, it cannot be wrong and in any case Jakarta remains a role model for other regions," he said.

In the 2027 development planning, the DKI Provincial Government will continue to refer to the stages that have been set and align with the national medium-term development plan (RPJMN).

"It is impossible for the name of the regional government to come out to do it alone without being in line with what the central government directs or decides," added Pramono.
