Israeli Military Kills Lebanese Journalist and Engineers Hezbollah Uniformed Victim Using AI

JAKARTA - International media associations have accused the Israeli military (IDF) of discrediting a Lebanese journalist who was killed by the IDF by spreading images of the victim wearing a Hizbullah group uniform produced by AI.

Citing AFP, Thursday, April 16, the Foreign Press Association, which represents hundreds of journalists in Israel and the Palestinian territories, said on Wednesday, April 15 local time, that the Israeli military had spread "fake" images to "discredit the journalists."

Three Lebanese journalists, including Ali Shoeib - a senior correspondent for the Al-Manar media - were killed in an Israeli attack in Lebanon on March 28, 2026.

The image of the AI manipulation was uploaded by the Israeli military in the official X account of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) @IDF on March 28, 2026.

In the picture, journalist Shoeib is shown half-naked wearing a press vest while the rest is covered with an AI-generated version using a Hezbollah uniform. "It turns out that the 'press vest' is just a cover for terror," the IDF wrote in the caption.

A day later, Israeli military spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shoshani posted another blurry image on X that allegedly showed Shoeib wearing a military uniform standing next to a tank, writing: "We posted this unedited photo this morning of terrorist Ali Shoeib wearing a Hezbollah uniform."

He also admitted that the image released a day earlier had been "edited."

Shoeib is known to be a senior correspondent for Al Manar TV, which has covered war and politics in Lebanon for decades.

According to FPA, more than 200 Palestinian journalists have been killed since October 2023 as a result of Israeli gunfire.
