DPR asks the TNI to conduct an audit of the investigation into the incident of two students being victims of stray bullets
Member of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Oleh Soleh, is concerned about the stray bullet incident that hit two SMPN 33 Gresik students, namely Darrell Fausta Hamdani and Renheart Octo Hanaya. He urged the Navy to immediately conduct a thorough investigation audit to find out exactly where the bullets that hit the two students came from.
The incident is suspected to have originated from the TNI AL soldier's shooting practice activity at the Marine Corps Gunnery Range, Surabaya, which is about 2.3 kilometers from the school location. Therefore, he said, an important investigative step must be taken to ensure transparency and accountability in handling the case.
"The investigation audit must be carried out seriously and openly so that the source of the bullets can be known for sure. This concerns the safety of civilians," said Oleh Soleh, Thursday, April 16.
He emphasized that if there is a violation of standard operating procedures (SOP) in the implementation of the shooting exercise, the soldiers who are proven guilty must be given strict sanctions in accordance with the applicable rules.
"If the exercise is not carried out according to SOP, then there must be accountability. Enforcement of discipline is very important so that similar incidents do not recur," said Oleh Soleh.
The West Java legislator also assessed that this incident should be a serious evaluation for the military institution in every exercise, especially those that have the potential to impact the surrounding community. He hopes that this incident can be handled immediately, and the victims get the maximum treatment, as well as ensuring that there are preventive measures so that similar incidents do not occur in the future.
"This is an important lesson for the TNI in carrying out military exercises. Don't let the bullets fired actually endanger civilians, especially if the victims are schoolchildren," he concluded.
Previously, the Commander of the Marine Corps (Pasmar) 2 Major General TNI (Mar) Oni Junianto said that his party had examined as many as 119 personnel for the stray bullet incident that hit two SMP students in Gresik.
Currently, the legal process of the case has been completely handed over to the Navy Military Police of the Regional Command of the Navy (Pomal Kodaeral). The inspection is ensured to run transparently.
