His daughter forgives the beating, Zaskia Adya Mecca insists that the legal process continues.
JAKARTA - Zaskia Adya Mecca's daughter, Kala Madali, showed maturity in the trial of the violence that befell her. Kala admitted that she had forgiven the defendant named Niko after meeting in person in the courtroom.
Kala told the moment when Niko apologized directly. Niko explained the chaotic situation that made him lose control and beat him six times.
"Om Nikonya apologized, explained why, so I forgave him. Om Niko said he was sorry. It's a pity because he can't see his mother, his wife, and the people he loves for a long time," Kala said in East Jakarta, Wednesday, April 15.
Zaskia Adya Mecca added that the defendant was experiencing a series of trials when the incident occurred. This is what is suspected to trigger the defendant's unstable emotions.
"He regrets that at that time he said the situation was chaotic, his wife had to have surgery again, his mother was critical again. Even while in prison, his mother was admitted to the ICU and he couldn't see his mother because his status was detained," said Zaskia.
For Zaskia, the presence of her children in court is not just a legal matter, but a life lesson about the consequences of an action. She wants her children to understand that emotions that explode will only lead to great losses.
"They learn what emotions are like. If you are angry you have to hold it in. If you explode, you will lose a lot, like Om Niko, you break up with your family because you have to go through the legal process," he concluded.
The meeting between Zaskia Adya Mecca and the defendant with the initials Niko at the trial ended with a moment of tearful apology. However, Zaskia emphasized that personal peace does not necessarily stop the ongoing legal process.
Zaskia respects the Indonesian justice system which still processes criminal acts even though the victim has apologized.
"Indonesia is a country of law, so the fathers of the court also want to show that the law is still running. Even though the heart has forgiven because it feels sorry to see his condition, but the law must still apply," said Hanung Bramantyo's wife.
The legal process against Niko is certain to still go through several stages. After the examination of the victim's witness (Kala), the court will examine other witnesses and evidence, including CCTV footage.
Arin Fauzan, the party who accompanied Zaskia, explained the series of processes that the defendant had to go through.
"After the complete examination of witnesses and the completion of evidence, only then will it be included in the indictment. After the indictment, there is a pleidoi (defense), replik, duplik, then the verdict," explained Arin.
Zaskia Adya Mecca hopes that this case will be completed soon and provide justice for her daughter. She completely handed over the legal mechanism to the panel of judges.
"The process is still long. We leave it to the court, we believe it will be judged as fairly as possible according to the applicable legal provisions. Thank you for your support, friends," concluded Zaskia.
