Rp4.06 trillion Monthly Budget for BPJS PBI, Reaching 96.8 Million Poor People's Lives
JAKARTA - The government allocates a budget of Rp. 48.7 trillion per year for the BPJS Health Fee Assistance (PBI) program, with a total of 96.8 million participants throughout Indonesia.
Social Minister Saifullah Yusuf or Gus Ipul said that the budget was equivalent to around Rp. 4.06 trillion per month which was channeled through the State Budget to guarantee health services for poor and vulnerable people.
"The value of the rupiah every month that the Ministry of Health deposits into BPJS is more than Rp4 trillion per month, and for a year it is more than Rp48 trillion. This is an allocation for the Health Insurance PBI," he said in a working meeting with Commission IX of the DPR, Wednesday, April 15.
The BPJS Health PBI program targets people who fall into the desil 1 to 5 category in the National Social and Economic Single Data (DTSEN). Currently, the number of poor people is recorded at around 23.8 million people.
The government is currently drafting the distribution of PBI quotas to be more equitable in each region, taking into account the poverty rate in each district/city. The quota also has the potential to be increased as the dynamics of social data continue to be updated.
In addition, the government adjusted the data of participants. In February 2026, around 11 million PBI participants were deactivated due to data discrepancies.
However, as of April 11, 2026, it was recorded that 2.15 million participants had been reactivated with various schemes, ranging from returning as PBI, switching to regional government assistance, to becoming independent participants and formal workers.
The government emphasized that this data update step aims to ensure that the large budget allocated is really targeted.
