The Government Turns the Meikarta Project into a Subsidized Public Housing Project
JAKARTA - The government continues to strengthen efforts to provide decent housing through collaboration with the private sector, one of which is through the construction of subsidized apartment houses in the Meikarta area, Bekasi Regency, West Java.
The Head of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) Muhammad Qodari said this project was a breakthrough in collaborative collaboration between the government, private sector, and financing institutions. The construction was marked by a groundbreaking on March 8, 2026 on land of around 30 hectares which has a clean and clear status.
"The construction of subsidized apartment houses in the Meikarta area is a strategic step to meet the housing needs of the community," said Qodari, Wednesday, April 16.
This project is projected to be able to provide up to 141,000 vertical housing units which will be built gradually.
However, development in the Meikarta area is also inseparable from past records related to projects that have stagnated or stalled in recent years. A number of previous developments have been slow, and even some units have not been completed, which has created uncertainty for consumers.
This condition is a concern for the government in encouraging new projects to run more measured and have legal certainty and financing. The government emphasized that the construction of subsidized flats this time was focused on land that had been administratively ready to avoid similar problems.
Qodari emphasized that the development of vertical housing would continue to be encouraged as a solution to land constraints in urban areas, as well as answering the national housing backlog.
With a more structured collaborative scheme, the government hopes that projects in the Meikarta area can run optimally again and provide certainty for people who need affordable housing.
In its implementation, Qodari said the government also appreciated the support of various parties involved, including the Lippo Group, the Bekasi Regency Government, and Danantara Indonesia.
The collaboration is considered to play an important role in accelerating the realization of the 3 Million House Program as well as expanding public access to decent and affordable housing.
