Apple is preparing an iPad Air with an OLED screen, release is expected in 2027

Jakarta - After a long time being rumored, finally there is a bright spot: the next generation iPad Air is expected to come with an OLED screen in early 2027. This news strengthens the signal that Apple is expanding the adoption of premium screen technology to a wider product line.

Based on supply chain reports, mass production of OLED panels for the iPad Air will begin in late 2026, with a launch schedule between March and May 2027.

Previously, Apple had already brought OLED to the iPad Pro line. However, this adoption came with consequences: soaring prices and a market response that was not as strong as expected. This is where the iPad Air strategy is interesting.

Unlike the iPad Pro which uses a high-end OLED panel, the iPad Air is said to use a simpler version (single-stack OLED). The goal is clear: to reduce production costs so that the price remains competitive. In other words, Apple is trying to present a "premium feel" without making the wallet panic.

Samsung Is the Key to Production

The report also names Samsung Display as the main supplier of OLED panels for the iPad Air. Production is scheduled to begin at the end of next year, signaling the industry's readiness to support the expansion of this technology.

This move also confirms Samsung's position as the dominant player in the global OLED screen supply chain.

The switch to OLED is not just a visual upgrade. It's part of Apple's big roadmap to unify display quality across its product ecosystem - from the Apple Watch to the iPad and the future Mac.
