Sapta Taruna Inscription is Assured to Remain, Revitalization of Gedung Sate Focuses on Expanding the Page to Gasibu
BANDUNG - West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi confirmed that the Sapta Taruna inscription stone, the symbol of Public Works (PU) Day, will not be moved in the revitalization project of the Gedung Sate courtyard, which is currently underway.
"Still, the inscription hasn't changed, there's no problem. The inscription won't be shifted and will remain there," said Dedi at the Pakuan Building, Bandung, Antara, Wednesday, April 15.
According to him, the revitalization is focused on rearranging the Gedung Sate yard so that it is more representative as the West Java Provincial Government. One of the main concepts is to connect the yard area with Gasibu Square at the same elevation.
"What exists is that the arrangement of the page is much better, and later the height of Gasibu is the same as the height of the Gedung Sate page. So later it will be wider, wider," he said.
Dedi assessed that so far Gasibu has been impressed with being more integrated with the surrounding hotel area than being part of the main face of Gedung Sate.
"Today, Gasibu's impression is that it is a Pullman page, not a Gedung Sate page," he said.
He also confirmed that Jalan Diponegoro, which is currently the boundary between Gedung Sate and Gasibu Square, will be affected by the project. The line will later be moved with a new route that divides the middle point of Gasibu Square.
According to the plan, Jalan Diponegoro will be turned in front of the Pullman Hotel gate, then connected again on the other side of the area.
"This is Jalan Diponegoro in front of Gedung Sate, then it will turn to the front of Pullman, turn right, then part of Gasibu will be used," he said.
However, Dedi has not explained in detail the fate of a number of public facilities at Gasibu Square, such as jogging tracks, toilets, parks, and libraries, which have been the favorite open spaces for Bandung residents.
Based on field monitoring, the green park in front of Gedung Sate has begun to be dismantled. The plaza tiles, natural stone, and a number of plants have also been removed to make room for the construction of a new ceremony field.
Referring to data from the General Bureau of the West Java Provincial Secretariat, the revitalization project will take place from April 8 to August 6, 2026. The arrangement includes pedestrians and public open space elements that represent the cultural identity of West Java.
The area that will be arranged will integrate the Plaza in front of Gedung Sate, the corridor of Jalan Diponegoro, to Gasibu Square as a main axis with an area of 14,642 square meters.
With a budget of around Rp. 15 billion, the project, which has been tendered since March 2026, is expected to reaffirm the position of Gedung Sate as the center point of West Java, which has been considered closed to the dominance of high-rise buildings around Gasibu.
