Worldwide Mobile Shipments Fall 12.3 Million Units in Q1 2026

JAKARTA - Total mobile phone shipments recorded a global decline of 4.1 percent in the first quarter of this year. This finding was revealed by IDC in its latest report.

Launching from Gizmochina, the number of mobile phone shipments at the beginning of this year fell to 289.7 million units. Meanwhile, in the same quarter of the previous year, the total shipment reached 302 million units.

This decline ended the positive growth that had been running for ten consecutive quarters since mid-2023. The main factor triggering this decline was the supply problem of storage components.

This triggered an increase in production costs so that the price of mobile phones also saw a slight spike. Although the mobile phone market is weakening overall, Samsung and Apple's sales increased compared to the first quarter of last year.

Samsung again took the first position with the highest number of sales. The South Korean company has shipped more than 62.8 million units worldwide thanks to the very high demand for the Galaxy S26 Ultra.

Apple followed in second place by selling more than 61.1 million units of mobile phones thanks to the launch of the iPhone 17 series. Demand for these devices even jumped more than 30 percent in mainland China.

Xiaomi still holds third place, but has experienced the sharpest decline among the top five other mobile phone companies. Meanwhile, Oppo ranks fourth despite sales in the international market looking down.

Vivo took fifth place with a contribution of 7.3 percent of the total mobile phone shipments worldwide. Other popular brands such as Honor and Huawei managed to record growth, but failed to occupy the top five positions.
