Press TB Case, Sumenep Regency Government Promotes Health
JAKARTA - The Sumenep Regency Government (Pemkab), East Java, has stepped up health promotion to reduce the spread of TB (tuberculosis) cases in the region, which has been recorded to reach thousands of people.
Head of the Disease Prevention and Control, Population Control, and Family Planning (Dinkes-P2KB) Office of the Sumenep Regency, Achmad Syamsuri, said that the target of the promotion was housewives and posyandu cadres on the mainland and islands spread across 27 sub-districts.
"The program starts in the second week of this month and will last until the end of the year to target all sub-districts on the mainland and islands in Sumenep," he said in Sumenep, East Java, Wednesday.
He explained that the material presented included an understanding of balanced nutrition, prevention and treatment of TB, and vigilance against diphtheria.
The activity aims to encourage balanced nutrition which is very important to support children's growth and development as well as maintaining the family's immunity.
This activity, he continued, is in the form of health education to improve the quality of life of the community through behavioral changes towards a cleaner, healthier lifestyle, and awareness of the importance of health.
"This activity is expected to increase public knowledge about the importance of maintaining health and preventing various diseases through a healthy lifestyle," he said.
Syamsuri said that until April 15, 2026, health promotion activities carried out by the Sumenep Regency Government's Health Office and P2KB had targeted two sub-districts, namely Kalianget Sub-district and Talango Sub-district.
According to data from the Sumenep Regency Health Office-P2KB, the number of residents in the easternmost district on the island of Madura who suffer from tuberculosis is as many as 1,520 people, spread across 17 mainland districts and eight island districts.
This number is reduced compared to the previous year. Because, in 2025, the number of people who are recorded to have TB was 2,294 people, with a death toll of 296 people.
In addition to intensifying promotions, the Sumenep Regency Health Office-P2KB also carried out direct monitoring and health checks from house to house.
