Minister of Social Affairs Yassierli asks K3 Office to be proactive in preventing work accidents

JAKARTA - Minister of Manpower (Menaker) Yassierli asked the Occupational Safety and Health (K3) Office to be more proactive and be the spearhead of prevention so that the number of work accidents in Indonesia can be significantly suppressed.

Yassierli emphasized that worker protection is not enough to be carried out only after the incident occurs, but must be strengthened from the beginning through more massive promotional and preventive steps.

"Promotional and preventive efforts are very important. I instruct all BK3 employees to move more massively in carrying out the functions of supervision and education. We must be able to significantly reduce the fatality rate at work," said Yassierli as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, April 15.

The Minister of Home Affairs assessed that the strengthening of the K3 Center was important because every work accident was not only about numbers, but also about human safety, the continuity of the workers' families, and trust in the work protection system.

Therefore, he continued, the K3 Office must be present not only as an executor of technical functions, but also as an institution that is able to read risks, build a K3 culture, and strengthen prevention in the field.

Furthermore, he also emphasized that the big target of reducing work accidents cannot be done by the government alone.

Collaboration with the private sector and the entire K3 supporting ecosystem needs to be strengthened, including with the Occupational Safety and Health Service Company (PJK3).

"PJK3 is not our rival. They are partners so that our big goal is achieved, namely the reduction of the number of work accidents throughout Indonesia," he said.

In addition to collaboration, Yassierli also asked for the strengthening of the capacity of employees in the K3 Office.

Yassierli assessed that employees are not enough to master technical aspects, but must also have managerial and data analysis skills so that their work results can become a basis for strong and targeted policies.

According to him, K3 testers must develop into a more comprehensive figure, with mastery of K3 culture, K3 Management System (SMK3), risk management, to statistics.

"In this way, the recommendations produced do not stop at technical findings, but are able to provide direction for more effective prevention efforts," he said.

In particular, the Minister of Home Affairs also reminded functional officials, ranging from instructors, supervisors, to mediators, to continue to develop in line with the increase in career levels.

"The higher the position of a person's functional position, the orientation must be towards policy makers. The more managerial, don't be more technical. This is what will bring about major changes in our labor protection in the future," said Yassierli.
