Kian Mesra, Putin Again Invites Prabowo to Russia May 2026
JAKARTA - Indonesia and Russia's relations are increasingly showing strategic closeness following the intensity of high-level communication between President Prabowo Subianto and President Vladimir Putin during a state visit in Moscow.
This closeness is reflected in Putin's direct invitation to Prabowo to return to Russia for two important agendas in May and July 2026, including an economic forum in the city of Kazan, Tatarstan.
Foreign Minister Sugiono said the invitation was conveyed during a bilateral meeting at the Kremlin Palace, Monday, April 13.
"President Putin invited President Prabowo to attend a forum in Kazan in May and a major industry exhibition in July," said Sugiono in an official statement, quoted by Antara Wednesday, April 15.
According to Sugiono, the invitation is a strong signal that the Indonesia-Russia relationship is not only formal diplomatic, but is developing towards a closer and mutually beneficial partnership.
During the meeting, the two leaders also held a one-on-one talk which took place during a lunch. A number of strategic issues were discussed, including global geopolitical dynamics and opportunities to strengthen cooperation in various sectors.
Sugiono emphasized that Russia is one of the important strategic partners for Indonesia, both in economic, energy cooperation, and people-to-people relations.
"In the future, the two countries will continue to strengthen economic cooperation and expand people-to-people relations between Indonesia and Russia," he said.
A number of agendas offered by Russia are also considered to open concrete opportunities for Indonesia to expand its global network, including participation in the Russia-Islamic World forum: KazanForum on May 12-17, 2026 and the international industry exhibition INNOPROM in Ekaterinburg in July.
This series of intensive interactions confirms that the relationship between Indonesia and Russia is entering a new phase that is more friendly, with a focus on strengthening cross-sector strategic cooperation in the midst of the ever-evolving global dynamics.
