Today, Heavy to Very Heavy Rain is Predicted in Several Areas

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that a number of regions in Indonesia will be hit by rain with varying intensities, ranging from heavy to moderate intensity rain on Wednesday, April 15.

BMKG Praktirawan Nazmi Nariyah reminded the public to increase vigilance against the potential for heavy to very heavy rain that is predicted to occur in North Sumatra, the Bangka Belitung Islands, West Java, and Central Java.

"Heavy to very heavy rain is expected to occur in North Sumatra, the Bangka Belitung Islands, West Java, and Central Java," said Nazmi, quoted by Antara, Wednesday morning.

Meanwhile, he continued, moderate intensity rain is predicted to occur in Bandung. Light rain has the potential to rain on a number of other major cities, such as Medan, Padang, Bengkulu, Palembang, Bandar Lampung, Jakarta, Semarang, Pontianak, Palangkaraya, Samarinda, and Tanjung Selor.

Next, Nazmi said the BMKG also warned of the potential for rain accompanied by lightning in several areas, namely Pekanbaru, Tanjung Pinang, Jambi, Pangkal Pinang, Banjarmasin, and Manokwari.

Then, cloudy to cloudy conditions are predicted to occur in a number of cities, including Surabaya, Banda Aceh, Serang, Manado, Ambon, Denpasar, Mataram, Kupang, Gorontalo, Kendari, Makassar, Sorong, and Nabire.

"For other conditions, hazy air has the potential to occur in Yogyakarta. Meanwhile, light rain is also predicted to occur in eastern Indonesia such as Palu, Mamuju, Ternate, Jayapura, Jayawijaya, and Merauke," he said.

In line with these various weather conditions, Nazmi said that BMKG urged the public to remain vigilant against the potential for extreme weather.
