9,600 Palestinians and Arabs Still Detained in Israeli Prisons

JAKARTA - The Palestinian Prisoners and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission reported that the total number of Palestinian and Arab prisoners in Israeli jails reached more than 9,600 people at the beginning of April 2026.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Commission, the Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS), and the Addameer Prisoners Support and Human Rights Association said the number of female prisoners had reached 86, including two who had been detained since before the genocide that began on October 7, 2023, and 25 people detained under administrative detention, quoted from WAFA (15/4).

The statement also showed that the number of juvenile prisoners under the age of 18 reached around 350 people, spread across Ofer and Megiddo prisons, and noted that there were two girls in Damon prison. It added that by the end of 2025, the number of children detained under administrative detention had reached 180.

Meanwhile, the number of administrative detainees in Israeli prisons rose to more than 3,532 at the beginning of April 2026. This figure includes women and children, most of whom are former prisoners who have spent years in Israeli prisons.

Other categories of prisoners include school and university students, journalists, human rights activists, lawyers, engineers, doctors, academics, parliamentarians, activists, workers, and first-degree relatives of Palestinians killed and prisoners held in Israeli jails, including the sisters of those killed and the wives of the prisoners.

Meanwhile, the number of prisoners classified by the Israeli occupation as "illegal fighters," according to the Prison Service, reached 1,251 at the beginning of April 2026. This figure does not include those detained in Israeli military detention centers.

The report confirms that the number of sick prisoners in Israeli occupation prisons has increased after the genocide.

Most suffered from pre-existing illnesses at the time of detention, were injured, or suffered from serious illnesses as a result of the genocidal policies that have subjected them to harsh and repressive conditions.

Their numbers continue to rise amid a policy of sustained torture and medical abuse, including denial of treatment.

Meanwhile, the number of prisoners who have died in Israeli custody since 1967 has reached 326, including 89 who died after the genocide.

This is only the known identity of those who died in Israeli custody, while dozens of other prisoners from Gaza are still forcibly missing.

The number of Palestinian prisoners who died in detention, whose bodies were detained by the occupation, reached 97 before and after the genocide.
