BSI Ready to Follow the SLIK Relaxation Policy from OJK, Make it Easier to Apply for Subsidized Mortgage Loans

JAKARTA - PT Bank Syariah Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BSI) is ready to follow the easing policy of SLIK from OJK to facilitate the process of applying for subsidized mortgages for low-income people while still paying attention to the principles of prudence and credit risk management.

Previously, the Financial Services Authority (OJK) decided that the information to be displayed in the Financial Information Service System (SLIK) report is credit or financing with a nominal amount of more than IDR 1 million, both based on the ceiling and the debit balance of each debtor.

"In terms of the fact that OJK has considered it (SLIK only displays credit above Rp. 1 million), it does mean that OJK has calculated (the risk) several times. We as actors, yes, follow that regulation," said Deputy President Director of BSI Bob Tyasika Ananta when met by reporters at the BSI Tower Jakarta, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, April 15.

Bob added that SLIK is still needed as initial information to see the customer's track record, which has been one of the foundations in the credit assessment process, in addition to other risk considerations in accordance with regulations.

He also mentioned that information in the SLIK, including if there are bad records, still helps in managing financing risks.

However, Bob reminded that the risk of financing still rests with the bank as the party that disburses credit.

"But in that context, there may be certain deviations that are considered by OJK," said Bob.

In addition to adjusting reporting in SLIK, OJK also decided to accelerate the update of the loan repayment status in SLIK to a maximum of three working days after the repayment is made. This policy is expected to help accelerate the process of applying for housing financing.

When contacted separately, the Head of Research at the Indonesian Banking Development Institute (LPPI) Trioksa Siahaan assessed that the threshold policy of Rp1 million in SLIK would not have much effect on KPR applications.

He assessed that loans under Rp1 million were relatively small and rarely found in banks. According to him, the update of SLIK so far has not been an obstacle in applying for a mortgage.

"The principle of SLIK is a tool to see the payment track record, and so far it has helped banks to conduct qualitative analysis. If the SLIK update is only related to the limit of Rp. 1 million to be reported, it will not have much influence on the existing process at this time," said Trioksa.

As previously reported, the Chairperson of the OJK Commissioner Board, Friderica Widyasari Dewi, said that OJK strongly supports the priority program for the construction of three million houses.

The strengthening of the SLIK policy was conveyed in a meeting with the Minister of Housing and Spatial Planning (PKP) Maruarar Sirait at the OJK Radius Prawiro Tower Office, Monday (13/4).

To support the acceleration of the housing program, OJK also provides access to BP Tapera to SLIK data in accordance with applicable regulations. This step is expected to support the acceleration of the process of providing housing financing facilities which is the task of BP Tapera.
