Trump Mobile Changes Narrative, Claims "Made in America" Lost from T1
Jakarta - Trump Mobile's controversial smartphone has reappeared with a new design. But behind the update, there is one change that is quite striking: the claim "Made in America" is no longer mentioned.
The device, called the T1 smartphone, was previously promoted as an American-made phone. Now, the narrative has shifted to a more vague one - just referred to as a product that is "shaped by American innovation".
New Design, But Not a Revolution
In terms of appearance, the T1 comes with a new rear camera module and a different design from the previous version. However, a number of observers consider the design to still feel familiar, even said to have similarities with the HTC U24 Pro.
Previously, the initial version of T1 was criticized for allegedly being a rebrand of a device made by a Chinese company, amid harsh political rhetoric against foreign manufacturing.
Specifications are enough, but not special
In terms of hardware, the T1 carries a 6.78-inch OLED screen, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 series chipset, large RAM with up to 512GB of storage, and a 5,000mAh battery with 30W fast charging.
The camera configuration consists of a 50MP main sensor, a 2x telephoto lens, and an 8MP ultrawide lens. With a promotional price of around 499 US dollars, this device is in the mid-range category - competitive enough, but not yet a standout in the flagship market.
Local Production Promises Start to Disperse
The most interesting thing is the change in the production narrative. If previously Trump Mobile emphasized that this phone was made in America, now the claim has been removed.
Instead, the company said its American team "guides design and quality" - an approach similar to Apple's strategy known as "Designed in California", even though it is produced overseas.
This change raises the question: is local production really difficult to realize, or just a revised marketing strategy?
Although it was announced last year, T1 has not yet been released to the market. Repeated delays even triggered an investigation by the Federal Trade Commission, after a number of consumers paid a deposit of 100 US dollars for pre-orders.
Until now, there is no certainty about the official launch date.
Between Branding and Reality
The Trump Phone story reflects the clash between branding ambitions and the reality of global supply chains. In the era of modern technology industries, producing devices entirely in one country is not easy - even for brands with a strong nationalist narrative.
With a new design and updated specifications, the T1 may try to reset. But without production clarity and a release schedule, the question remains the same: is this a serious product, or just a political gimmick in the form of a gadget?
