Phil Collins, Oasis to Wu Tang Clan to be inducted into 2026 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

JAKARTA - The announcement of the list of recipients of the 2026 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has been officially released. They are big names across genres, from classic rock to hip-hop that reflect the global music landscape as a marker of the era.

Among the figures to be inducted, names such as Phil Collins, Oasis, and Wu-Tang Clan are the main highlights on this year's list.

In addition, the list of performers is also filled by Sade, Billy Idol, Iron Maiden, and Joy Division / New Order. Meanwhile, the name of the late Luther Vandross is also included, emphasizing his long influence on soul and R&B music.

Interestingly, some names such as Wu-Tang Clan and Luther Vandross immediately passed their first nomination, while others such as Oasis and Iron Maiden had to wait after being included in the nomination list several times. This shows the dynamics of the election which remains competitive even though it involves big names.

Outside the performer category, the Early Influence award was given to important figures such as Celia Cruz, Fela Kuti, Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, and Gram Parsons. They are considered revolutionary figures who paved the way for the development of modern music across genres.

Meanwhile, the Musical Excellence category is filled with behind-the-scenes figures such as Rick Rubin to Arif Mardin, whose contributions are no less important in shaping the sound of the music industry. The Ahmet Ertegun Award was also given to Ed Sullivan for his role in introducing musicians to a wide audience through television.

This announcement was made in a special episode of American Idol, marking how this moment is now part of a wider pop culture. The selection process itself involves more than a thousand voters from the music industry and the public.

Even so, not all nominations were successful. Big names like Mariah Carey, Lauryn Hill, and Shakira had to wait again, adding to the long list of musicians who have not managed to break into the Hall of Fame.

The induction ceremony is planned to be held on November 14, 2026 in Los Angeles and broadcast in December.
