China Joins Spain to Reject 'Jungle Law' amid Iran-US Conflict

JAKARTA - Chinese President Xi Jinping is seeking to strengthen cooperation with Spain to reject the world's return to "the law of the jungle" amid the ongoing conflict between the United States (US) and Iran.

This was conveyed during Xi's meeting with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez in Beijing, as reported by the state-run Xinhua news agency.

"The world today is in turmoil, facing a battle between the rule of law and power," Xi said, urging Madrid and Beijing to "together defend true multilateralism."

As reported by ANTARA from Anadolu, Tuesday, April 14, Xi's statement released by the government media did not directly mention the war between the US and Israel against Iran.

However, both Spain and China, which are scheduled to host US President Donald Trump next month, have condemned the US and Israeli attacks on Iran as "unacceptable" and "illegal" actions.

Sánchez arrived in China on Saturday (11/4) for a five-day visit, which is his fourth visit to the country since taking office.

The visit comes about five months after Spain's King Felipe VI made a state visit to China, the first by a Spanish monarch in 18 years.

Spain and China recorded bilateral trade values exceeding 55 billion US dollars (around Rp942.3 trillion) last year, with Beijing remaining Madrid's largest trading partner outside the European Union.
