Follow PP TUNAS, TikTok Has Deleted Nearly 1 Million Child Accounts Under 16 Years Old
JAKARTA - Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, revealed that TikTok has complied with the regulation on child protection in the digital space or PP TUNAS, joining X, Bigo Live, and Meta which includes Instagram, Facebook, and Threads.
"In connection with this, we are pleased that today the government can express its appreciation to the TiTok platform which has also decided to join the joint movement in protecting children, especially in Indonesia," said Meutya in a press conference on Tuesday, April 14.
In addition to changing its platform policy to limit user accounts under 16 years old through the help page, TikTok has also submitted a letter of commitment to compliance with the government, regarding the commitment to carry out the things stated in the PP Tunas and also the subsidiary regulations.
In addition, the minister from the Golkar Party also mentioned that as of April 10, 2026, based on internal assessments, TikTok admitted that it had disabled 780,000 accounts for children under 16 years old for Indonesia.
"We don't have data today, because this is data from April 10, but we calculate from the average takedown, which means it's almost 1 million per day today," Meutya continued.
Minister of Communication and Information Meutya also expressed his appreciation for digital platforms that have committed to complying with PP Tunas and its derivatives. Meutya hopes that other platforms can follow up as soon as possible.
He also reminded other platforms, outside the eight main platforms (TikTok, Bigo Live, Instagram, Threads, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, and Roblox), to immediately report the results of the risk profile assessment within 3 months.
"At the same time, we remind that all other platforms outside of these eight have a middle time of 3 months to report the results of the risk profile assessment. So we are also waiting while walking with these first eight platforms," he continued.
