Anthony Joshua Gives Signal to Clash Against Tyson Fury
JAKARTA - Two-time unified heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua has signaled that a fight against his one-nation rival, Tyson Fury, could happen after more than a decade of talks to bring them together have always failed.
The signal was delivered by Joshua after Fury challenged him after winning against Arslanbek Makhmudov via a unanimous decision at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London, England, last weekend.
"The contract will be sent, we will discuss the details, and most likely you will see us in the ring for the next fight," Joshua told Netflix.
Fury shouted from the edge of the ring towards Joshua after recording a victory over Makhmudov. He asked Joshua to get up on the ring for them to have a face-off, but his wish was ignored at all.
Joshua, who refused to get into the ring, then responded casually from his seat. He said that Fury had to find him if he felt ready to realize their fight on the ring.
"You won't be able to control me. I've been chasing you for the past 10 years. If you're ready, come see me and tell me the terms and conditions of the fight," said Joshua.
Fury has hinted that he will sign a contract to face Anthony Joshua, but it seems there is no certainty that the meeting will happen in the near future.
The Gypsy King previously decided to retire for a year after suffering his second consecutive defeat against two-time undisputed world champion Oleksandr Usyk.
He insisted he would not fight again, but earlier this year reversed his decision and eventually faced Makhmudov as a marker of his return to the ring.
Fury admitted that he had three fight contracts in this year's calendar, including one that he had already carried out. However, he wants Joshua as the next opponent or he will hang up his boxing gloves if it is not realized.
"If my next opponent is not Anthony Joshua, I am no longer interested in boxing. The choice is only him or I retire," he said.
On the other hand, Joshua last fought in December last year against Jake Paul. He won a knockout (KO) in the match before being involved in an accident in Nigeria that killed two close friends.
Joshua's future was in doubt following the accident. However, he has since returned to training and will likely undergo a warm-up fight before facing a big fight later this year.
