Leapmotor Lafa 5 Ultra Ready to Launch with More Aggressive Performance and Premium Features

Leapmotor announced that it will launch the Lafa 5 Ultra on April 24, coinciding with the opening day of the Beijing Auto Show. This model comes with an exclusive sports package as well as interior touches that are designed more specifically to improve the driving experience.

The manufacturer is utilizing an electric hatchback base with a more sporty character and higher specifications to strengthen its position in the compact electric vehicle segment in China. The Lafa 5 Ultra test unit has even started to be available at a number of dealers in China, as well as supporting the Navigation Assist Pilot (NAP) feature for use in urban areas.

As an illustration, the official standard version of Lafa 5 was introduced in November 2025 with a limited initial price of 92,800 yuan or equivalent to Rp. 232 million. This model plays in a very competitive EV segment, facing a number of rivals such as the Volkswagen ID.3, MG4, BYD Dolphin, and the Nio Firefly EV.

The presence of the Ultra variant is a signal of Leapmotor's ambition to reach a wider consumer by offering higher specifications, not just relying on affordable prices. In appearance, the Lafa 5 Ultra is equipped with an aerodynamic front splitter, winged side skirts, and a rear diffuser.

Launching CNEVpost, Tuesday, April 14, the sporty touch is further emphasized by the 19-inch rims, dark gray doff brake calipers, and black emblem. The frameless door design and flat side window lines also strengthen the coupe feel of this car.

All these elements make the Ultra version appear more aggressive than the standard model, while increasing the brand's appeal in an increasingly crowded segment. Interestingly, Leapmotor insists that the increased sporty character does not sacrifice comfort.

Lafa 5 Ultra is equipped with an eight-point massage system on the front seats, a feature that is still rarely found in its class and is an added value for family users. In terms of performance, this car carries an electric motor with a power of 180 kW.

This figure is higher than the 160 kW motor used on most of the current Lafa 5 variants, so it promises stronger performance and a more assertive driving identity.

Not only that, Lafa 5 Ultra is also equipped with two flagship chips, namely SA8295 and 8650, as well as a LiDAR sensor. This combination allows the ability of urban NAP to be widely used without relying too much on high-definition maps.

In terms of business performance, Leapmotor recorded 50,029 units shipped in March, up 34.87 percent compared to the same period last year and jumped 78.25 percent compared to the previous month. This achievement also ended the trend of declining shipments for three consecutive months.

Throughout the first quarter of this year, total shipments reached 110,155 units or increased 25.82 percent year-on-year, although it was still down 45.21 percent compared to the fourth quarter of 2025. The decline was influenced by seasonal factors such as the Lunar New Year holiday and the slowdown in the automotive market at the beginning of the year.

Going forward, Leapmotor relies on an aggressive strategy of launching new models to maintain growth. In addition to Lafa 5 Ultra, their flagship SUV, Leapmotor D19, is scheduled to launch on April 16, while other models such as A10, A05, and D99 have also been included in the 2026 product map.

Backed by Stellantis NV, the Chinese electric vehicle maker delivered nearly 600,000 units in 2025 and for the first time managed to post full-year profitability.
