Polri, TNI, and BIN Collaboration Strengthen National Economic and Security Stability

JAKARTA - Senior political analyst Boni Hargens appreciates President Prabowo Subianto's decisive step in giving instructions to four key state officials to synergize to prevent smuggling in order to maintain economic stability and national security.

The instruction was addressed to the TNI Commander Agus Subiyanto, National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo, BIN Head Muhammad Herindra, and Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa.

According to Boni, the President's direction reflects the seriousness of the government in facing economic threats amid global uncertainty, including the impact of conflicts in the Middle East.

"This instruction is a signal that must not be ignored. The President's quick steps are a big capital that requires a concrete and measurable response from all institutions," said Boni, Tuesday, April 14.

He emphasized that cross-sectoral collaboration was not merely administrative coordination, but a strategic synergy that must be realized through concrete steps. The alignment between the National Police, TNI, BIN, and the Ministry of Finance is considered the key to the success of the anti-smuggling agenda.

Boni also highlighted the success of the Attorney General's Office in saving state assets as a driving factor for government optimism. In the last 1.5 years, the value of asset recovery is said to have reached around IDR 31.3 trillion.

"This shows that law enforcement not only serves as an instrument of justice, but also contributes directly to state revenue," he said.

Furthermore, Boni explained that each institution has a strategic role that complements each other. The National Police excels in civil law enforcement and criminal investigations, the TNI plays a role in securing the territory including the border, while BIN has intelligence capacity to detect and map smuggling networks.

In a broader perspective, he assessed that eradicating smuggling should be placed as part of the national resilience agenda, which includes the economic, energy, and fiscal dimensions of the country.

"This approach places organized economic crime as a serious threat that requires a response equivalent to traditional security threats," he said.

Boni added that an effective law enforcement strategy can also be a source of state revenue through non-budgetary channels, especially from the recovery of assets resulting from criminal acts.

According to him, if this approach is expanded, including through the role of the National Police in eradicating smuggling, the potential for increasing state revenues will be even greater while strengthening the deterrent effect on economic crime perpetrators.
