YouTuber Resbob Sentenced to 2.5 Years in Prison for Hate Speech Case

BANDUNG - YouTuber Resbob or Muhammad Adimas Firdaus Putra Nashihan was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison in a case of alleged hate speech against the Sundanese people through live streaming on social media.

"So this time the demand is that we (wear) Article 243 in accordance with the indictment, yes, Article 243 of the new Criminal Code. Then for the sentence we demand two years and six months. That is, 2.5 years in prison," said the Public Prosecutor (JPU) from the Bandung District Attorney's Office, Sukandausai at the reading of the letter of demand at the Bandung District Court, Monday, April 13, reported by ANTARA.

Sukanda menyampaikansejumlah barang bukti yang berkaitan dengan tindak pidana masih diamankan guna kepentingan proses hukum lebih lanjut. Sedangkan barang bukti yang tidak terkait dengan kejahatan dikembalikan kepada terdakwa.

"Yes, we will first see what the defense will say from the counsel or the defendant," he said.

During the trial, the panel of judges gave the defendant the opportunity to submit a plea (pleidoi) which was scheduled for April 20, 2026.

Sukanda said the JPU team would wait for the defense from the defendant and his legal advisor at the next hearing.

In the indictment, the prosecutor said the defendant made a statement that offended and triggered public anger, especially the Sunda people.

The prosecutor assessed that the statement had fulfilled the elements of a criminal act as stipulated in Article 243 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 243 of Law Number 1 of 2026.

The prosecutor said the act occurred on December 8, 2025 at around 19.00 WIB in Krembangan District, Surabaya City, East Java.

Although the location of the incident was in Surabaya, the JPU considered that the Bandung PN had the authority to investigate and try the case based on Article 165 paragraph (2) of the Criminal Procedure Code.
