Prabowo to Putin: RI Join BRICS Quickly, Monetary Affairs Even Spotlighted
JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto did not come to the Kremlin just to exchange greetings. In front of Russian President Vladimir Putin, he actually opened a bottleneck that was not yet resolved, namely the Indonesian-Russian monetary relationship still needed to be accelerated, even though cooperation in many sectors was said to have progressed quickly.
The message was conveyed by Prabowo when he met Putin at the Kremlin, Monday, April 13. He admitted that he came to express his gratitude for Russia's support for Indonesia, especially because Indonesia was quickly accepted in BRICS.
According to Prabowo, almost all areas agreed by the two countries in recent months have shown rapid progress. However, he emphasized that there are still one or two things that have not gone as fast as expected.
"There are one or two that we need to accelerate. I will immediately handle it myself, especially the monetary relationship between the two parties. I will supervise myself," said Prabowo.
This statement was one of the points in the meeting. Because, in the midst of a warming political relationship, Prabowo actually touched on the most technical and sensitive things about the monetary mechanism between countries.
Apart from bilateral cooperation, Prabowo also said that his arrival in Moscow was to consult on the rapidly changing geopolitical developments in the world. He assessed that Russia played a positive role in facing a global situation full of uncertainty.
Therefore, said Prabowo, Indonesia wants to continue to strengthen cooperation with Russia, especially in the fields of economy and energy.
Putin greeted Prabowo's visit with a positive tone. He said the meeting was important, not only because of bilateral relations, but also because of the rapidly moving world situation and demanding closer responses between countries.
