Speed up the construction of People's Schools, Minister PU asks for additional workers

JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works (PU) Dody Hanggodo has asked for additional workers to accelerate the construction of the Tahap II People's School (SR) in Sampang Regency, East Java (Jatim).

"Please maintain the quality of the work. If possible, add more workers so that the progress is faster, because usually the most difficult thing is the finishing stage. So, it must be prepared from now," said Dody as quoted from a written statement, Monday, April 13.

As of April 10, 2026, the physical progress of construction has reached 36.05 percent, with the support of more than 520 workers who are working intensively to pursue the target of completion on June 20, 2026.

Dody emphasized the importance of maintaining the quality of work in line with the acceleration of construction implementation in the field.

He also encouraged the addition of labor so that construction could take place faster, especially ahead of the final stage which is considered the most challenging.

The construction of the SR in Sampang Regency is located in Sejati and Batu Karang Villages, Camplong District, with an area of around 8.4 hectares (ha).

The project was carried out through the East Java Strategic Infrastructure Implementation Unit with the WASKITA-CAG KSO contractor.

During the review, Dody said that basic infrastructure support in the school area had been running well.

"Water is full from PDAM (Regional Water Company), electricity has also started to be installed. There are about 520 workers, even working until 2 am," said Dody.

SR Phase II Sampang is designed as an integrated education area which includes elementary, middle, and high schools with a capacity of 1,000 students.

The facilities built include classrooms, student dormitories, teachers' apartments, mosques, canteens, multipurpose buildings to sports facilities such as ceremonial fields, football fields and basketball courts.

The Democratic Party politician also highlighted the readiness of the area's facilities, including sports fields which were considered representative.

"The football field has also been prepared, about three hectares," he explained.

Furthermore, Dody hopes that the work can be completed with the best results, so that the project can become an example of the development of quality educational infrastructure.

Through the construction of SR Phase II, the Ministry of PU hopes to increase access to decent and quality education for the community, as well as support the development of human resources in Sampang Regency and its surroundings.
