OIKN Strengthen Local Culture Through Craft Training in Nusantara
JAKARTA - The Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) encourages the preservation of local culture as well as the strengthening of the community's economy through rattan weaving and wood carving training for residents in the Nusantara delineation area.
This program is expected not only to preserve cultural heritage, but also to open new business opportunities for local communities.
Director of Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy of OIKN, Muhsin Palinrungi, explained that the activity was held for five days and involved representatives from various sub-districts.
"This training took place on April 13-17, 2026 at Tower D Rusun ASN 1, followed by 20 participants representing each sub-district in the IKN delineation area," said Muhsin.
In its implementation, OIKN presents a number of speakers from the Ministry of Industry, namely Edi Eskak, Hadi Sumarto, Nova Retnawati, and Zuriyah. Participants not only get theoretical material, but also direct practice so that they are able to produce handicrafts independently.
The training material covers various aspects, ranging from raw material processing, production techniques, to the development of designs that have higher selling value in the market.
Muhsin emphasized that this activity is part of a strategy to build community economic independence based on local potential.
"Through this training, IKN not only builds physical infrastructure, but also strengthens the economic foundation of the community based on local culture, towards an inclusive, productive, and sustainable ecosystem," he explained.
He also hopes that this training will be able to produce new creative economic actors who remain rooted in regional culture.
One of the participants, Daniel, who is a teacher at SMPN 02 North Penajam Paser Regency, assessed that this training opens up opportunities for knowledge transfer to the younger generation.
"I hope that the knowledge from the training I am currently participating in, in the future I can teach it back to the students. Creative economic development cannot be done alone, but must involve the next generation," said Daniel.
According to him, the potential of rattan around the IKN area has not been fully utilized. He sees this training as an opportunity to process these resources into economically valuable products.
A similar opinion was expressed by Dina, a furniture business operator from Sepaku District. He assessed that this training was an opportunity to improve the quality of the business he was running.
"I hope this training can help me improve the quality of my products and expand marketing. I am confident that in this five-day training I will gain a lot of skills and knowledge," he said.
Through this training, OIKN hopes that the community will not only be a spectator of development, but also play an active role in creating sustainable creative economies based on local wisdom.
