PU Minister Acknowledges That There Are Still Some People's School Projects Left Behind

JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works (PU) Dody Hanggodo admitted that there were still a number of Public School (SR) development projects in various remote areas.

Even so, in general the progress of construction is still under control and continues to be pursued.

This was conveyed by Dody when reviewing the construction of the People's School Phase II in Surabaya, East Java, Sunday, April 12. He ensured that the project was running according to the target for completion on June 20, 2026.

"The progress in Surabaya is good, about 45 percent and the quality is also good. In general, the construction work of SR carried out by Waskita Karya and partners is going well. In Sampang Regency, it is also almost 40 percent. There are indeed other locations that are still behind, but overall it is still under control and continues to be pursued," said Dody as quoted from a written statement, Monday, April 13.

Dody explained that the physical progress of the construction of the Tahap II People's School in Surabaya is currently at around 45 percent with good work quality.

The project is supported by 571 workers who are continuously optimized to accelerate completion.

The People's School is located in Kedung Cowek Village, Bulak District, and was built on an area of about 6.6 hectares (ha).

The project was carried out by the contractor Waskita Karya-CAG KSO through the East Java Strategic Infrastructure Implementation Unit.

The facilities that were built include classrooms for elementary, middle, and high school levels, with a capacity of up to 1,000 students.

In addition, there are also student dormitories, teachers' apartments, mosques, multipurpose buildings, canteens, clean water installations, and sports facilities such as basketball courts and mini soccer.

He emphasized the importance of maintaining the commitment to completing the work so that the facilities can be utilized in the new school year.

"I ask all parties to maintain their commitment so that the construction can be completed on time. Insyaallah if the progress is good like this it will be completed before June 20. So on July 1, this facility can be used for teaching and learning activities," said Dody.

Furthermore, Dody also reminded the need for strengthening coordination and supervision in the field to maintain the quality of work while preventing delays.

"For those who are still lagging behind, they must be immediately pursued with concrete steps in the field, including adding manpower and strengthening supervision," he explained.

The Democratic Party politician added that the construction of the People's School is part of the government's priority program to improve the quality of human resources (HR) through the provision of decent and integrated education, especially for children from pre-prosperous families.
