Google Messages Launches Trash Folder, Prevents Accidental Message Deletion
Google Messages has launched a Trash folder feature to prevent messages from being deleted accidentally. This feature is widely available in the latest Google Messages app in the stable version.
Before this folder was launched, conversations that were deleted or deleted by mistake would immediately disappear permanently. Therefore, Google presents this feature as a temporary storage medium.
All messages in the Trash folder will have a grace period of 30 days. During this period, users can easily recover deleted chats.
After exceeding 30 days, messages will be permanently deleted by the system. For Android Go device users, the storage duration is limited to seven days to save storage space.
Users can access this folder via the account menu in the upper right corner of the screen. The Trash folder will appear just below the Archive folder after the user taps on their profile picture.
Inside the folder, the number of messages stored will be shown. Users have the option to restore the conversation to the main screen or choose the 'Delete all' option if they want to clean it up faster.
The launch of this folder can already be seen in the latest Google Messages application with version 20260327_00_RC00. Make sure that you are using the latest version to get the feature that is being expanded.
